2. Citations

As you do your research, keep a list of your sources - books, periodicals, and the Web. Below is the type of information you need to write down from a citation.

Book
Information needed:  author(s) or editor(s), name or title of work, edition if provided, place of publication, name of publisher, date of publication, medium of publication consulted (Print).

Book in a Series
Information needed: author(s) or editor(s), name or title of book, place of publication, name of publisher, date of publication, medium of publication (Print), and series name and number (if provided).

Article in a Print Newspaper
Information needed: author(s), name or title of article, name or title of newspaper, date, page and section number or initial page + if nonconsecutive, edition (early edition, late edition, etc.) if provided, medium of publication (Print).  If there is no author, start the citation with the title.

Website
Information needed:  author(s), title of the work (use italics if the work is independent or quotation marks if the work is part of a larger work), title of the overall website, publisher or sponsor (if not available use N.p.), date of publication (if not available use n.d.), medium of publication (Web), date of access or use (day, month, and year).
