French

French Professor

"Whether you are looking for an online dictionary from French to English, and English to French, a monolingual paperbound French dictionary on sale from Amazon, an advanced French dictionary software program, French dictionary CDs or DVDs at clearance prices, or a free dictionary software app that is adaptable to the iPhone or to a smart phone that runs on Google's Android platform, such as any of the insanely popular French flashcard apps, or apps featuring a "French Word of the Day", this is the most comprehensive resource on the Internet to find the French dictionary tool that is best suited to your needs."

American Association of Teachers of French

The American Association of Teachers of French (AATF) was founded in 1927 and is the largest national association of French teachers in the world with nearly 10,000 members.

French Dictionaries

This exhaustive collection of nearly 1000 electronic French dictionaries, glossaries and wordlists gives access to hundreds of thousands of words, terms and expressions. Combined with a CD-delivered lexical database such as TERMIUM and your choice of paper dictionary, a picture-based dictionary (with detailed drawings), it is a fitting and complete tool for all, from student to professional translator.

French Language Course

The following French course is intended to allow you to understand written French (newspapers, articles, magazines, signs on the road during your next trip in France, etc.) and to write a letter to a French friend or correspondent.

History of the French Language

The present site is not meant to serve as a History of the French Language textbook. A number of the nearly 100 links may seem extraneous to traditional historical linguists; some of them show a political bias, and some do not bring the accuracy of a Mildred Pope to the task. With few exceptions, descriptions of gradual phonemic shifts in French are lacking on the WWW. This kind of internal history, along with some aspects of external history are more effectively studied in print . What the site offers is great wealth in the variety of its historical topics, including modern efforts to legislate French language use.

Learning French and French Grammar

The University of Adelaide Library has compiled a list of useful French resources on the World Wide Web.  Links to dictionaries, encyclopedias, electronic newspapers, journals, texts, literature, and more, selected and annotated.
