Bristol Community College 2012 OneBook Essay Contest

Essay Contest Submission Policies

  1. Only current BCC students are eligible for the contest.
  2. Entries must be typed and include your Student ID number in the upper right hand corner of each page. For the purposes of judging all submissions fairly, your name should NOT appear on the work.
  3. No email submissions, please.
  4. All essays or creative work must be accompanied by a completed entry form stapled to the back.
  5. Writing will not be returned to students. It is advised that students keep a copy of their submission in their own files.
  6. The deadline for entering your writing is 4:00 p.m. on Monday, November 26th. Entries meeting all submission requirements should be handed in at the Learning Resources Center (Building A – library) Circulation desk - attention Dr. Gabriela Adler.
  7. Revisions to your work after submission can not be accommodated.
  8. All entries must represent your own work without inappropriate assistance of any kind. Plagiarism will immediately disqualify an entry.
  9. Essays should be a minimum of 250 words.
  10. All essays must address the themes or elements of the BCC One Book for 2012, The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, by Rebecca Skloot. The essay may be critical, creative or a personal response to the book.
  11. A student may turn in only one essay or creative work.
  12. All prizes will be awarded at the final One Book ceremony in December, date and time to be announced. Selected winners will be notified by phone.
  13. Please be aware that entries may be reprinted, published and distributed in some format: this may include publication on the web and for educational purposes including distribution in the classroom and at conferences. By submitting your work, you are permitting the publication and distribution of your work.
  14. After a winner is notified, work must be submitted electronically for publication.
  15. First prize: $100.00
    Second prize: $50.00
