Career/Vocational Technical Education (CVTE) Program

The Career/Vocational Technical Education (CVTE) Program (formerly Tech Prep) supports juniors and seniors in eligible high school Career, Vocational, and Technical education programs.

The goal of this federally funded grant program is for community colleges and high schools to work closely together to ensure a smooth and seamless transition from high school to college.

The CVTE Program connects the last two years of high school to the first two years of college through aligned coursework, programs and related activities.

Participation in the CVTE Program allows students to get a jump start on college, saves time and money, and helps students prepare for success in college and career goals.

Program benefits to students include:
  • Articulated Credit - Students can get a head start by completing college coursework in high school.
  • BCC Free College Courses - Students may take up to five free college courses while still in high school (three during junior year and two during senior year). These courses are on a space- available basis and must be after 4:00 pm Mon. – Fri. or anytime on weekends or during summer semester.
  • Computerized Early College Placement Testing (Accuplacer) -Taking the test while still in high school enables students to take developmental courses, if necessary.
  • Career Pathway and Program Guidance - At the high schools, a coordinator in guidance works with the BCC CVTE office to coordinate benefits and activities for students to assist with goal setting and program participation.
