Women in Technology

All schools included in the consortium are welcome to have some of their female students join the Women In Technology (WIT) program. The program allows women in non-traditional fields to come together and take part in special activities. Some of these activities include taking part in a work-based site project at either Invensys Foxboro, Johnson & Johnson, Rika Denshi or Texas Instruments. A week-long summer camp at UMass Dartmouth and BCC is also a part of the WIT activities. Camp Burgess also hosts a one day leadership camp, which focuses on individual leadership and confidence building skills.
The mission of the Tech Prep WIT Program is to increase the number of women in professional technical and engineering positions so those women can:
  • Pursue careers that provide the opportunity to make significant contributions
    in technical fields.
  • Further their careers and continue to grow as professionals.
  • Improve the quality of life for themselves and their families.
  • Provide role models for younger women.

The Tech Prep WIT program has adopted the following objectives:

To sustain, within the Bristol Tech Prep Consortium, a WIT program that will include support services for young women. Support services consist of a science, math and technology summer residential camp for high school girls, a mentoring program, a shadowing program, leadership training and other activities and to maintain an advisory board to oversee the Bristol Tech Prep WIT program and its activities.
