Legendary performer Michael Grando to perform "A Concert in Pantomime" at BCC
Bristol Community College’s Theatre department will host A Concert in Pantomime with world renowned mime Michael Grando of Providence, who comes to Bristol Community College’s Main Stage Theatre on Friday, September 21, at 8 p.m. Tickets are available at the door, and are $10 for the general public, $8 for BCC faculty and staff, and $6 for students.
Michael Grando’s performance with no props, no sets, and no gimmicks is a unique example of “body magic.” Grando envisions “putting a great, big net around the audience and pulling them all together.” This archetypical form of pantomime combines “emptiness, silence, and storytelling” said Grando.
Grando is one of the top recognized mimes in the world. He has performed at Carnegie Hall, appeared on The Tonight Show on NBC, Saturday Night Live on NBC, and has shared the bill with famous acts such as Tina Turner and Janis Joplin. He is a descendant of classical mime Deburau of France, and has been trained and mentored by world famous pantomime Marcel Marceau. He is a regular performer at Providence’s “Waterfire.”
Bristol Community College joins the likes of Brown University and the Rhode Island School Design in bringing Michael Grando’s legendary expertise to an education setting.
