Faculty Development in the Writing Lab

From its beginning, the Writing Lab at BCC has had two critical missions:  to assist writers with their work and to promote writing instruction on campus.  The latter mission assumed that we’d schedule time during the semester and in the summer for conversations about effective writing instruction.  Those conversations have been wide-ranging, including subjects such as

• What exactly do we wish to elicit from students through our writing assignments?
• How do these assignments reinforce our broader course objectives? 
• What deeper understandings do we wish to promote in our courses?

The Writing Lab hosts a Winter Workshop on Tutoring in the Disciplines and a Summer Institute on Writing and Thinking in the Disciplines.
