Information for Guests


The 2019 Commencement Ceremony will be held, rain or shine, on the Fall River campus (777 Elsbree Street) on Saturday, June 1, at 11 a.m. The event will take place under the solar canopies, with an alternative viewing area located in H building for overflow seating or guests wishing to remain indoors. 

The ceremony will be followed by a reception in the John J.  Sbrega  Health and Science  Building. Light refreshments will be served. 

Accommodations for Disabilities 

The Commencement ceremony is accessible to persons with disabilities. The stage will be accessible by wheelchair and American Sign Language Interpreters will be provided. Attire

Please plan accordingly for adverse weather conditions. You might also want to bring an umbrella if rain is forecasted. 

Seating for Guests 

Seating for guests is provided on a first-come, first-served basis. Lawn chairs are not permitted. Guests are asked to go directly to their seats. Please follow the instructions of the ushers. 

Parking

Parking will be available on campus as well as nearby Bishop Connolly and Durfee high schools. Please follow posted signage and parking attendants. Parking will begin on campus, with overflow parking available at the off-site locations. Shuttle busses will be available on campus and at Bishop Connolly.

Prohibited Items

Please make note of the following items that will not be allowed at the Commencement ceremony:

  • No Balloons or banners (signs)
  • No book bags/oversized handbags. All bags are subject to voluntary inspection. Failure to consent or submit to inspection will result in denial of entry
  • No smoking on campus
  • No alcoholic beverages
  • Service animals only
  • No Noise makers or air horns
  • No Fireworks/sparklers
  • No pepper spray/OC/ Mace
  • No weapons of any kind, including pocket knives and box cutters
  • No vaping or electronic smoking devices
  • No lawn chairs

Commencement Photographs

In order to help you in planning the best way to capture commencement memories in photographs, please be aware of the following. 

GradImages TM featuring GradTrak® is the official commencement photographer. An individual photograph of each graduate will be taken. A proof of the photograph will be mailed to you along with information on ordering copies and enlargements. You may view your photos on their website at  www.gradimages.com

President Douglas will be available for photographs during the reception in the John J. Sbrega Health & Science Building. Please provide your own camera. 

Post-Commencement Reception

All graduates and their guests are invited to attend a reception immediately following the ceremony in the John J. Sbrega Health & Science Building (J Building). There will be light refreshments and President Douglas will be available for photographs. Please provide your own camera.  

In J building, there will also be a help desk where the registrar will be available to answer any questions.  

Flowers

One or more student organizations will be selling flowers on Commencement day on the campus grounds. We encourage you and your family to consider purchasing flowers from these students. Other vendors may be selling flowers outside the campus on the city streets, but please note that only student organizations will be allowed on the campus itself. 

Simulcast

The Commencement Ceremony will be simulcast by Fall River Community Television on channel 95. Fall River Cable subscribers can watch the ceremony live on Channel 95 beginning at 11 a.m. The ceremony will be rebroadcast frequently during the month of June; exact times will be posted on Channel 95. In addition the ceremony will also be streamed live online at  www.frmedia.org and BCC’s Facebook page.
