Student Profiles - Caroline Reusch

Caroline Reusch has a passion for helping animals. A student in Bristol Community College’s Environmental Science transfer program, she decided to get some real-world experience out in the field – and found it through Bristol’s Cooperative Education and Internship program.

Caroline landed a position as an animal care and education intern at the National Marine Life Center in Bourne, Mass. – one of the only seal rehabilitation facilities on the east coast.

From educating children about the animals and giving tours to getting in tanks to provide the animals with medicine and treatment, she experienced hands-on learning that has set her on a path to a future in animal rehab. After graduating from Bristol, Caroline transferred to UMass Amherst to pursue a bachelor’s degree in natural resource and conservation, with a concentration in wildlife rehabilitation.

“Co-op was an opportunity that I just couldn’t pass up,” Caroline says. “It gives you the opportunity to learn what you may not learn in the classroom. Actually doing the work is a lot different than knowing it.”
