President Harris Biography

Sedgwick L. Harris, Ed.D., serves as the fifth President of Bristol Community College. A proud community college graduate and first-generation college student, Dr. Harris is committed to student success, innovative program development and workforce readiness. With more than 25 years of experience in higher education administration, he is focused on creating student-centered learning environments and ensuring that students at every stage of their academic journey have the support they need to succeed. His expertise spans strategic, data-driven planning, program design, and decision-making that advances student access and achievement. 

Before joining Bristol, Dr. Harris held leadership roles at several community colleges. At Northampton Community College in Bethlehem, Penn., he served as Vice President of Administrative Affairs and Vice President of Student Affairs and Enrollment. His professional experience also includes leading student services in Illinois at Kishwaukee College in Malta, and at Kaskaskia College in Centralia. Earlier in his career, he directed admissions and student life at Kellogg Community College in Battle Creek, Mich. 

A Michigan native, Dr. Harris earned an Associate of Arts in General Studies from Southwestern Michigan College in Dowagiac, Mich., Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communications/Media Studies from Northwestern Oklahoma State University in Alva, Okla., a Master of Arts in Educational Leadership and Administration from Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Mich., and a Doctor of Education in Community College Leadership from Ferris State University in Big Rapids, Mich.
