The SOAR Team
Bristol’s Student Outreach, Assistance & Retention (SOAR) Team believes students deserve holistic support that honors their dignity, respects their autonomy, and assists them in achieving their vision of success. We respond to concerns that may substantially interfere with student success by meeting students where they are, honoring their self-determination, and coordinating cross-institutional action to address complex needs. Through a centralized approach, the SOAR Team connects students to resources, reduces barriers to persistence, and fosters students’ capacity to thrive academically and personally.
The SOAR Team DOES NOT respond to or address emergencies. If you feel threatened, or are aware that someone is in extreme distress, is acting in a threatening manner, or has indicated a risk of harm to self or others, please IMMEDIATELY CALL Bristol Community College Police at 774.357.3911 or 3911 from any Bristol phone.
To make a referral to the SOAR team, please complete the SOAR Team Referral form.
The SOAR Team typically meets weekly to review cases. After reviewing information received from the reporting party, discussing the situation, and performing the appropriate level of investigation, the SOAR Team may determine any of the following:
- Take no action; monitor the situation for additional developments
- Assist faculty or staff in developing a plan of action
- Directly contact student to:
- Refer student to existing College support resources
- Refer student to appropriate community resources
- Make other recommendations consistent with College policies and procedures
The reporting party and any other appropriate parties may be notified of the status of the issue. Specific information about the content of an assessment, including a referral to the Student Conduct process and/or any outcomes of student conduct cases, cannot be shared with the reporting party due to FERPA regulations.
